"Agam" the Voice of BITS Pilani

They are quite an explosive act on stage — They play contemporary carnatic rock — with a good amount of metal licks embellished by strong classical influences. They’re called Agam the band.

Initially a two-piece band (in 2003), formed by Harish Sivaramakrishnan and Ganesh, today, this seven-piece has come a long way. “Six of us in the band are from the same college, BITS Pilani. The members today hold regular IT jobs, and never miss their jam sessions,” says Harish, vocalist, who also plays the violin.
“It’s been an exhilarating journey. We’ve had our share of ups and downs — and we’ve overlooked the ‘no-issues’, to be where we are today,” says Harish. Winners of a reality show judged by Dr AR Rahman in 2007, the band even recorded its single in Rahman’s studio. “One will find the best engineers in the country working at Rahman’s studio. It’s our best studio experience so far. After recording at the studio, did we realise how good we could sound. We now try and maintain this quality throughout,” explains Harish.
Currently working on a new song, temporarily titled, The Boat Song, the band is planning on releasing its debut in August this year. “We will have a Kannada song in this album,” he adds. Agam’s songs are written in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Urdu and Punjabi. Most of the band’s writing material are poetic and meaningful. “We’re open to writing songs in English too, but it just doesn’t seem to blend with our style of music,” says Harish.
They enjoy playing in the cities. This passionate group of youngsters are living their dream. “Our music has evolved with a lot of feedback too. We’re out there getting inspired and of course, we intend to keep it ‘live’.”
